Generative Engine/AI/LLM Search Specialist Services

What is GEO?

GEO is a new buzzword in the SEO space which stands for Generative Engine Optimisation. It relates to increasing visibility and the number of citations your site has in LLMs (Large Language Models like ChatGPT).Β

When I say citations that refers to your website and subsequently your business being pulled into the responses or answers when someone enters a prompt into an LLM.Β

An example of this would be 'who are the best plumbers in sheffield?'Β

And within the response it'll be something like:

"The best plumbers in Sheffield as of 2026 are:Β

ABC plumbing (linking to site) - they have 15 years of experience in the trade with a specialism in boiler repairs.

Smith's plumbing Β (linking to site) - this company is well established and works well with commercial properties.

Sheffield plumbing services Β (linking to site) - based in the city centre, SPS provide an emergency call out service.Β

Here's a real screenshot of that search in ChatGPT

What does a GEO/AI Search specialist do?Β

An AI search specialist like myself will use certain strategies to increase the chances of the company/website being pulled into LLM responses.Β

These strategies overlap massively with SEO tactics including technical seo, content strategy and link building. Being featured in external listicles (which are relevant and natural) is one example.

I'll also report on the impact of these strategies with reports including GA4 referral data showing exactly which LLMs (chatgpt/copilot/claude etc) are referring traffic to the clients website.Β

There is both AI mode in Google Search and ChatGPT - these are separate but both require the same strategies.

The reporting side is improving and recently Bing Webmaster Tools released an AI search report with the number of citations and grounding queries being shown.Β

How do you optimise for GEO/AI Search?Β

90% of it is the same as SEO. There are a few nuances and differences - for example, schema doesn't directly help - LLMs see this as plain text.Β

Writing content that answers potential prompts and covers broad grounding queries can help to increase the number of citations a site has.Β

Being featured in the top 10 of Bing/Google and other search engines helps tremendously as LLMs use these SERPs as indexes to help generate responses.Β

Also being featured in external listicles such as 'top 10 B2B SaaS products' also helps increase the brand's presence on the web and increases the chance of being cited.Β

What should you report on for GEO/AI Search?Β

  • Number of citationsΒ
  • Referral traffic from GEO/AI search
  • Referral traffic from specific LLMs
  • Ground queries that trigger promptsΒ

How can optimising for GEO/AI Search benefit a business?

  • It feels incredibly personal to users as they are search specific prompts and it's a huge trust signal that LLM's are pulling your website in to an answer (of course they aren't perfect and do hallucinate but generally are accurate)Β
  • It's a signal of strong brand sentiment, answers can be pulled in from reddit community posts for example which is pure user generated content reviewing a businessΒ
  • It sends referral traffic (the most important element) to a website resulting in both sales, enquiries and conversions
